Blue Flame has been providing propane services to families and businesses in the four-state area for decades. In June of 1977 the company moved from its original home at Dawson Hardware to its present location beside the Valley Road Dairy Queen in Berkeley Springs, WV, and we grew rapidly from there. By 1979, local demand and construction on the Hancock bridge had spurred the need for propane storage in Berkeley Springs, so a 30,000-gallon tank was added here. And in 1985 we purchased Empire Gas in Hancock, MD, so we could better expand into the Hancock area. By the Fall of 1991, Blue Flame was serving most of the communities in Morgan, Berkeley and Hampshire Counties in West Virginia, and in Washington County, MD. Our growing customer base spurred an addition that doubled our original office so we could better display fireplaces, space heaters, water heaters, and furnaces.

After having been in the Bohrer family for decades, in 1996 Blue Flame passed to the family of Dean Haldeman, whose three children run the business today. We continue to employ longstanding members of the founding family’s team, and we are proud to carry on their legacy of careful, personal service. Blue Flame continues to grow! We now include Parco Propane, on the other side of the mountain, where we serve families and businesses as well as the burgeoning shale gas industry. In 2002 we added two more 30,000-gallon tanks in Johnsontown, WV, and in 2004 our storage capacity in Hancock was doubled when we added a second 18,000-gallon tank to our system there to better serve our Maryland and Pennsylvania customers. By August of 2009 we had finally outgrown the old office at the back of our lot, so we moved to our new facility at 1834 Valley Road. A big programmable sign in front of our office was added early in 2011 so we can support the community with local announcements, including time and weather.
